What are my options for Post-16 Education and career choices?

There are a range of options available for continuing to study, Post 16. You will need to apply for either A Levels, or a Level 3 course of study. Most post-16 education establishments will require you to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Band 4 (some courses of study will have further requirements).

What do the different levels of study mean?

Level 1 – GCSEs at grade D and below/band 4 and below

Level 2 – 5 or more GCSEs at grade C and above/band 5 and above

Level 3 – A Levels, AS Levels, BTEC Level 3

Choosing what to study

This takes careful consideration and research. You will need to consider the subjects you are strong in, that keep your interest and that they enjoy. There is more information about subject related careers on the Curriculum Intent section of the school website.

Where can I study?

www.nulc.ac.uk– Newcastle College – Newcastle College – A large further education college situated in Knutton. This can be easily reached from Newcastle bus station. Offering a range of A levels, BTECs, vocational courses and apprenticeships.

www.stokecoll.ac.uk– Stoke on Trent College -Stoke-on-Trent College – Situated in Stoke and Burslem with access via bus and Cauldon campus within walking distance of Stoke-on-Trent train station. Offers A levels, BTECs, vocational courses and apprenticeships.

www.stokesfc.ac.uk– Stoke on Trent 6th Form College – City of Stoke-on-Trent 6th Form – Situated near to Stoke-on-Trent train station. It is accessible via bus, train or nearby cycling routes. Offers BTEC and A level courses in a wide variety of subjects.

www.reaseheath.ac.uk– Reaseheath College – Reaseheath College – This college specialises in agricultural, construction and animal management courses but also provides a range of other vocational and academic courses. Free transport is available from some areas.

https://equality.training/ Equality Training – Equality Training – This provider has local sites in Newcastle and Hanley. Courses on offer include Childcare, Health and Social Care, Hairdressing, Barbering, Business Administration and Vocational Studies. Class sizes are a maximum of 12.

https://www.martectraining.co.uk/ Martec Training – Martec Training – This is a smaller provider in Newcastle under Lyme within easy walking distance of the bus station. Martec offer a range of apprenticeships, traineeships and study programmes. Subjects include Motor Vehicle, Hospitality and Catering, Business Administration and Warehousing.

St Joseph’s College St Joseph’s College is a Sixth form school and offers a range of A level qualifications and mainly academic route to university.
