Library
“The Library is the heart of creativity in any school” – Michael Morpurgo
The Library is located in the Old Hall, next to the reception area, literally and metaphorically at the heart of the school. It is staffed by a full time librarian alongside a small team of student and prefect librarians. All staff and students have access to the library before and after school and during break and lunch times.
Opening Hours

Resources
Alongside the library’s fiction, non-fiction and reference books, there are six desktop computers, twenty iPads, colour printer and photocopying facilities. The library also stocks a number of educational board games such as scrabble and chess.
Fiction
We stock a wide range of fiction books to support students with Accelerated Reader and reading for pleasure. The stock is constantly growing and evolving to cater for all tastes and abilities including graphic novels, manga and accessible titles for struggling and reluctant readers. We welcome suitable book suggestions from the students.
Non-Fiction
The Library has a large collection of non-fiction books on a range of topics which are selected to support and accompany the curriculum.
D.E.A.R
Clayton Hall is dedicated in raising student attainment in reading and promoting reading for pleasure. All students now have 10 minutes allocated reading time every day; this is known as D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read).
Accelerated Reader
All year 7 and 8 students have a timetabled Library Lesson once per fortnight. The school operates the Accelerated Reading programme which quizzes student’s understanding of the book they have read at their required level.
