Last night Clayton played a Rugby fixture V St John Fisher. The match ended 6 tries to 2 in favour of St John Fisher. What was nice about the fixture was the opportunity, for many of the players to experience a proper game on a full-size pitch for the first time. Huge well done to the 14 lads who took part last night. It was an enjoyable match and some quality running of the ball on show from our squad. It also served as an opportunity for players from both schools to get to know the local Rugby club and get involved with Newcastle Rugby Club out of the school setting.
Clayton returned to the track for the annual Athletics Championships at Northwood last Tuesday for the U15 (Y9) and U17 (Y10/11) championships. Having missed athletics for 3 years it was a welcome return for one of the strongest sports in the school. The teams did not disappoint either, with the Year 10/11 Boys and Girls who were runners up overall, (only Newcastle Under Lyme school bettered our performances as a team) and the same result, runners up, for the U15 boys. The U15 girls were 8th overall but performed excellently. There were many fine individual performances from our athletes, and we will see a total of 4 girls and 12 boys who will go to the County Championships to represent the District of Newcastle under Lyme on Saturday June 11th. In total we had 27 podium spots and 8 gold medal winners. We are super proud of all the athletes who competed on Tuesday; it was a big team effort despite it being an individual event, and the support the athletes gave one another was brilliant. A special shout out also to our 12 leaders who were stuck with Mr Rhodes all day timekeeping for all the running events. Our leaders were well praised by staff from other schools and without them the event would not have run as smoothly as it did. Thank you and well done to all involved.

Clayton Hall Academy are incredibly proud to announce a recent student of ours, Greg Butler has been selected to represent England at this year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Greg has been working hard ever since he was 10 years old, is super focused and has finally reached one of his goals: to make a senior squad in a major championship. We wish Greg and his family all the best for the Games. Go smash it, Greg! We are so proud of you and it's lovely to think that a Commonwealth athlete came to Clayton. Greg is the only Brit to have beaten Adam Peaty in a swimming Gala in the past several years which he did earlier this year in a 200m Breaststroke event.
